Around 380 women gathered at the Radisson Blu, Glasgow for a spectacular lunch, where they raised significant funds and awareness for Epilepsy Research UK.
Broadcaster Jane Garvey, ultra cyclist and epilepsy campaigner Scot Katherine Ford and Professor Helen Cross, President of Epilepsy Research UK all gave extraordinary talks which were informative, entertaining, at times tear jerking, and above all completely inspirational with their own experiences of epilepsy. The money raised will go towards research into ‘Neurodevelopment in childhood-onset epilepsies and in children of women with epilepsy’. Cognitive and or behavioural problems in childhood-onset epilepsies are often undiagnosed and or poorly managed, and the outcomes of children of women with epilepsy remain unclear. Researchers at the University of Edinburgh will use a large-scale Scottish dataset to determine psychological and educational outcomes, and understand more about why poor outcomes occur.
